Bloomberg: Paramount Merger Faces FCC Protest From Media Watchdog Group
The Center for American Rights, a public interest law firm, has filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commissionairing concerns about the pending merger of Paramount Globaland Skydance Media.
The nonprofit organization, which describes itself as nonpartisan, said an investment in Skydance by the Chinese company Tencent Holdings Ltd. raises questions about foreign influence over the US media. Furthermore, the group said Paramount’s CBS Newsdivision has a “troubling track record of ideological bias and news manipulation” and lacks diversity in its hiring practices.
The Center said the commission should extract commitments from Paramount that it will avoid foreign influence and promote diversity on its airwaves.
