Des Moines Register: Des Moines Register poll showing Harris leading Trump draws another suit alleging fraud

A second lawsuit filed against the Des Moines Register and its longtime political pollster, J. Ann Selzer, accuses the paper of fraudulently misleading subscribers when it published a poll shortly before the November presidential election that proved wide of the mark.

The final Iowa Poll of the 2024 cycle — conducted by Selzer and released by the Register in partnership with Mediacom — showed Vice President Kamala Harris leading now-President-elect Donald Trump by 3 percentage points just days before the election. Trump went on to win the state by 13 percentage points.

Wednesday's lawsuit was filed by the Center for American Rights on behalf of Dennis Donnelly of West Des Moines, who identifies himself as a Register subscriber. It argues that the polling miss amounts to fraud in violation of Iowa consumer protection laws, as did another lawsuit filed in December by Trump.
